There is no doubt that DLNA TV certifications are up, but the question that remains for me is whether consumers will actually connect these devices. What gives me the most hope, quite frankly, for web connected TV is Vizio’s aggressive push, and it has nothing to do with DLNA. In fact, Vizio spokespeople have been critical of DLNA, so its remains to be seen if the digital TV maker will use the technology at all in its push to deliver web-connected TVs. Overall, the push by DLNA to up the number of web connected TVs is good, but much of the future work around whole home media is ensuring not only connections, but consistency of experience, which is what this new org is about.
